Injury/Trauma

    Injury/Trauma

Any impact to the head, if severe enough, can cause injury to not only the brain and facial bones but also to the external, middle and inner ear and facial nerve. A break in the bony partition between the brain/spinal fluid space and middle ear/mastoid system may cause leakage of spinal fluid through the nose or ear canal.

Objects introduced through the ear canal are also a common source of injury to the eardrum and middle ear.

In this section we discuss the treatment rationales for these special problems.
